Postpartum Consultations

Supporting your recovery, energy and long-term wellbeing after birth

The postpartum period is a profound time of physical recovery, emotional adjustment and huge nutritional demand. Whether you are weeks or months after birth, your body is still rebuilding, healing and adapting—especially if you are breastfeeding.

Good nutrition and supportive lifestyle habits during this stage are not about “bouncing back,” but about restoring balance, rebuilding nutrient stores and supporting your long-term health as a mother.

Why does nutrition matter so much postpartum?

Pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding place significant demands on the body. Even with a well-balanced diet, it is very common for nutrient stores to become depleted.

Postpartum nutrition plays a key role in:

  • Restoring energy levels and reducing fatigue

  • Supporting hormone regulation and mood balance

  • Aiding tissue repair and recovery after birth

  • Supporting milk production and breastfeeding demands

  • Helping digestion, immunity and overall resilience

When your body is well-nourished, it is better able to cope with the physical and emotional demands of motherhood.

Common postpartum nutrient deficiencies I see in clinic:

Many new mums experience subtle (or not-so-subtle) symptoms of nutrient depletion. Some of the most common include:

  • Iron - low iron is common after birth due to blood loss and increased demand during pregnancy.

  • B vitamins (especially B12 and folate) - essential for energy production and nervous system health.

  • Vitamin D - important for immune function, bone health and mood regulation.

  • Magnesium - often depleted due to stress, sleep disruption and recovery demands. Did you know our body excretes more magnesium when we are stressed?

  • Omega-3 fatty acids - anti-inflammatory and important for baby’s brain health if you are still breastfeeding and also to replenish your brain stores post-pregnancy (your baby takes a lot of DHA from you in that final trimester!).

How good nutrition helps bring your body back into balance

Through a personalised approach and getting the right nutritional foundations in place, many mums notice improvements in:

  • Steadier energy throughout the day - when you provide your body the right fuel you really notice it in your energy.

  • More stable mood and reduced overwhelm - by stabilising blood sugar and helping to manage stress levels.

  • Better sleep quality and recovery - important for those nights your kids actually let you sleep for more than 3-4 hours!

  • Improved digestion and reduced bloating - integrating healthy gut foods, practices and mindfulness for a calmer digestive system.

  • Stronger immunity and resilience to illness -boosting your immune system to support you and your family.

  • Gradual restoration of hormonal balance - eating for your hormones and addressing any underlying nutritional or hormonal imbalances (such as thyroid issues).

Rather than restrictive dieting, postpartum nutrition is about replenishing, nourishing and rebuilding your body from the inside out.

My approach to support you postpartum

Every postpartum journey is unique. As a Clinical Nutritionist, I take a personalised approach to help you understand exactly what your body needs in this stage of life.

Together, we look at:

  • Your current symptoms and health history

  • Key nutrient gaps and dietary patterns

  • Gut health, stress and sleep support

  • Practical, realistic nutrition strategies for busy motherhood

  • Gentle lifestyle changes that fit into your daily life - 5 minutes here and there is more realistic than taking a full hour out or your busy day.

My goal is to help you feel:

  • More energised

  • More balanced

  • More like yourself again
